WHAT IS A PUBLIC SAFETY SIGNAL BOOSTER?
Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA) and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) work together as a public safety signal booster to ensure that firefighters and other public safety personnel in your building can communicate clearly and efficiently no matter where they are. A BDA is a device or system that receives, amplifies and retransmits signals from wireless stations.
BDAs work together with a DAS to rebroadcast the emergency responder communication system signal. BDAs can amplify low radio signal levels to an acceptable level. The signals are then transmitted by the DAS, which is a network of antennas, cables, splitters and other devices that form an antenna system to cover a large area. This rebroadcasted signal can meet requirements set forth by the NFPA or IFC standards, and it allows first responders to use radios in locations within a building that were previously dead zones.
WHY DO I NEED A BDA/DAS?
Fire Marshals are now enforcing a new building code on sites of a certain size to meet specific public safety/emergency responder radio coverage requirements*. Public security is a major concern so new and existing buildings/sites are required to prove proper radio coverage on the Public Safety Radio Systems used by first responders and emergency services.
If your emergency responder radio coverage is lacking and fails testing during your new construction inspection, your building occupancy certificate could be denied which would cost your project precious time and money.
